Setup Of Projectors Inside

Brief

This project was undertaken for the Integrated Product Development Methods class at the Integrated Innovation Institute. We were tasked with identifying, understanding and conceiving a product/service which addressed the needs and desires of millennials in the context of a kitchen environment.
Team: David Hoysan, Jacob Davidson, Yifei He, Meilin Zhang, David Vaglia

Research

Through literature, interviews, surveys and observational studies, we assessed trends, identified opportunities, uncovered key stakeholders and articulated the value proposition.

Concept

We came up with over 150 ideas which we categorized into broad opportunities. We combined ideas or cut them and after much deliberation, decided on 7 possible product opportunities. Our next step was to compare them methodically by using the weighted matrix and searching the market for gaps or saturations within this area.

Product Opportunity: Food Preparation and Planning

Millennials plan and prepare meals to save time for work and other social activities while still pursuing a healthy lifestyle. They enjoy sharing their lives with their friends and family. While planning and preparing for a meal is useful for millennials, few have the time or energy for it. Most want to eat a healthy meal but have little nutritional knowledge. They would like to experiment with the food they cook but find the process of finding a new recipe frustrating. Often, they’re unaware of what ingredients they have at home and what ingredients are needed for a new recipe.
We used these insights as we went through the ideation process using methods such as affinity mapping, value opportunities analysis, '6-3-5', 'how can we' etc.

The final concept was a game which took inspiration from little alchemy. The user can scan their groceries which will be stored in the app’s inventory. They can then drop ingredients from their inventory into a pan interface and get a list of recipes one can make with those ingredients. Once they make the recipe, the app will reduce or remove the ingredients from their inventory. The app can also suggest recipes with ingredients the user doesn’t have and prepare a grocery list for them.
